Effectiveness of inhaled corticosteroids for certain medical needs

Inhaled corticosteroids are ordinarily recommended to treat individuals with early stages of asthma complications.
According to some recent studies, one can increase the standard dosage of inhaled corticosteroids by eight times, but benefits will be not enhanced in such case. Ejaz Yousef, a specialist who has been involved in these researches, notes that if a physician observes that medical position of a patient becomes worse, he/she can advise administering oral steroids instead of enhancing the dose of inhaled steroids. Enhancing the quantity of inhaled steroids is not without any negative response. This factor leads to various undesirable results. For example, the hypothalamic-pituitary adrenal axis may be suppressed under such circumstance.  
Intake of inhaled steroids was considered to be alternative treatment to using oral drugs. It was in 1997. It was advised to indicate inhaled steroids as alternatives of oral medicines which are effective for individuals with asthma complications.
Then, several researches have displayed that intake of enhanced measures of inhaled corticosteroids systematically doesn’t enhance positive effects.
Yousef and his colleagues have conducted a study which involved almost 200 kids of 2-17 years. These children were given inhaled steroids during 3 months. They were chosen randomly for therapies for a period of 12 days. Any child that had asthma exacerbation was given inhaled corticosteroids. Then the results were evaluated by the doctors.
No any child who smoked, experienced signs of chronic asthma or lung pathology was involved in the research.
Patients had to let know about their adverse responses per telephone within 72 hours.  So, it was reported about cough during nighttime, wheeze, shortness of breath and intolerance  for exercises. Each symptom was evaluated according to a score which was ranged from 0 to 4. 0 meant none; 4 meant the highest severity level.
Only 4 children out of 82 the children that were given high doses of inhaled steroids had to administer systemic corticosteroids. Two2 of them were given doubled dosages; others two were administering the quantity which was more increased by 8 times than a normal one.
According to the results of the research, effectiveness of the medicines, placebo effect, supervision of health care providers and treatment of patients during early stages of asthma exacerbation were responsible for acquiring good results.
This as well as other researches manifest that not every story about steroids is linked with abuse and intake of them for performance-enhancing effects. Steroids are effective for numerous medical purposes.
